I Refuse to Let My Daughter, 12, Share a Room With Her Stepbrother, 14

My ex-husband’s fiancée, Nadine, is moving into his two-bedroom house with her 14-year-old son. I told him, “I don’t want some 14-year-old boy sharing a room with my 12-year-old daughter.” Nadine just silently smirked when I said this.

A few days later, I went to pick up my daughter from her dad’s house. When I went into her room, my heart dropped — I found her in tears, and her closet was completely empty. She told me that Nadine had moved all of her belongings out of her bedroom and told her she had to sleep downstairs on the living room couch.

I was furious and immediately called my ex. He explained that Nadine did this to create “maximum distance” between her son and my daughter, since I had insisted they shouldn’t share a room. I asked why Nadine’s son couldn’t be the one to sleep on the couch instead. My ex said that I was the one who made a fuss in the first place, so it didn’t make sense for Nadine’s son to be “thrown out” of a bedroom.

He then told me not to interfere anymore because it’s not my house. But I am beyond angry and hurt for my daughter.

Am I in the wrong here?
