Eminem Reveals Dolly Parton’s Private Note — Her Unexpected Words Took on New Meaning After Her Death

Following Dolly Parton’s death at 80, Eminem shared a deeply personal message she had written to him after their 2022 inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The note, which had never been widely seen before, revealed a surprisingly warm connection between two artists from very different musical worlds. Addressing him as Marshall, Parton congratulated Eminem on his achievement and admitted that although she did not know much about rap, she had come to recognize him as one of its greatest performers. What caught Eminem’s attention most, however, was her unusually personal observation that she had always felt an “unexplained connection” to him, even though they had never met. Parton had hoped they might meet at the ceremony but said the hectic nature of such events prevented it. Instead, she took the time to write directly to him, encouraging him to continue his work and reminding him that his music reached people in ways he might never realize.

After news of Parton’s passing on August 25, Eminem decided to share the letter with his followers, explaining just how much her unexpected kindness had meant to him. He admitted that he was sorry they never had the opportunity to meet and said Parton “definitely didn’t have to take the time” to send the note. For Eminem, who grew up primarily listening to rap, Parton represented something much larger than country music. He remembered her as an icon and “a superstar in every sense,” thanking her for the thoughtful words she had given him years earlier. The tribute offered fans a different glimpse of Parton’s personality—generous, encouraging and willing to reach across musical boundaries. Her handwritten message, once simply a private gesture between two celebrated artists, now stands as a touching reminder of the kindness she showed even away from the spotlight.
