Conjoined Twins Abby and Erin Delaney — Their Remarkable Journey Continues

When Abby and Erin Delaney were born in July 2016, their parents were faced with news that would change their lives forever. The twin girls were born joined at the tops of their heads, a rare condition known as craniopagus twins. Doctors initially estimated their chances of survival at only 5 to 25 percent, but their parents, Heather and Riley Delaney, refused to give up hope. After spending their first 485 days at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the girls underwent an extraordinary separation operation in June 2017. The surgery lasted more than 11 hours and involved around 30 medical professionals, who worked together using innovative techniques to carefully separate and reconstruct the sisters’ skulls and surrounding tissue. Against remarkable odds, the procedure was successful, giving Abby and Erin the opportunity to grow up separately while remaining surrounded by the love and support of their family.

Their journey, however, did not end with that historic surgery. As the girls grew, they required additional procedures, including skull reconstruction and plastic surgery, along with countless medical appointments and follow-up care. Their mother has continued sharing updates about their progress, celebrating both the difficult moments and the milestones that followed. Despite facing further challenges, the sisters have continued to show incredible determination. Abby has worked toward becoming more mobile, while Erin has made progress with walking, running, and climbing stairs. Through every setback and success, their parents have remained fiercely proud of them. Heather has emphasized that she and Riley never wished their daughters were different, saying they love Abby and Erin exactly as they are. Now, years after their life-changing separation, the twins’ story remains a powerful reminder of resilience, family, and hope.
