Dolly Parton’s Niece and Sister Share Heartbreaking Tributes After Her Death — Their Words Reveal a Side of Her Few Ever Saw

Dolly Parton’s death has left her family grieving the woman they knew not as a global superstar, but as a beloved aunt, sister, and second mother. After her private funeral in Nashville, her great-niece Lainey Mae Parton shared an emotional tribute, saying she had waited until Dolly was laid to rest before finding the words to say goodbye. Lainey remembered how Dolly encouraged her dreams, including her decision to attend beauty school, and even invited her to sing alongside her. “She never made my dreams feel too big,” Lainey recalled, adding that she would miss Dolly’s voice, hugs, laugh, and even the unexpected 4 a.m. phone calls. She lovingly called her “Granny,” a family nickname Dolly had embraced for years. Dolly once explained that her nieces and nephews called her “Aunt Granny” because she loved their children as if they were her own grandchildren.

Dolly’s sister Freida Parton offered an even more revealing tribute, remembering her older sister as “my Dolly Momma.” Freida said Dolly helped raise her from ages 13 to 18, becoming a parental figure during an important chapter of her childhood. She acknowledged that the sisters had their disagreements, but said she never stopped loving Dolly and now faced an “insurmountable loss.” Another sister, Stella Parton, remembered their Tuesday morning coffee calls, a simple tradition that had continued for years. “My Tuesday morning coffee time will never be the same,” she wrote. Together, the tributes reveal a deeply personal side of Dolly that fame could never capture. Beyond the rhinestones, awards, and unforgettable songs, she was the person her family called when they needed encouragement, comfort, laughter, or simply someone to listen.
