Charlie Korsmo became a familiar face to movie fans as Jack Banning, Peter Pan’s son, in the 1991 classic Hook. He was only 12 when he appeared alongside Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Julia Roberts, following earlier roles in Dick Tracy and What About Bob? Despite his promising start in Hollywood, Korsmo eventually walked away from acting and focused on education. He earned multiple degrees, including a law degree, and became a lawyer before moving into academia. The career change carried an amusing connection to Hook: his on-screen father, Peter Banning, was also a corporate lawyer whose demanding job caused problems with his family. Korsmo later explained that after working at a major law firm, he realized the lifestyle was not what he wanted, particularly once he planned to have children. He ultimately chose a career as a professor specializing in corporate law and finance, giving him a profession that allowed more balance.

Although Korsmo largely left Hollywood behind, he has never completely closed the door on acting. He has occasionally returned for film projects, including a supporting role in the 2024 movie A Different Man, starring Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson. He has also spoken positively about his childhood acting years, explaining that the money he earned helped pay for college and that his early fame could have helped his résumé later in life. His decision to leave acting was less about rejecting his past and more about building the life he wanted. Unlike Jack’s fictional father, Korsmo recognized the importance of being present for family before becoming trapped in the same demanding routine.
