A South Carolina mother is facing two counts of attempted murder after her two young children, ages 6 and 3, were discovered seriously injured inside their home in Spartanburg County. Taylor Gosnell, 35, was arrested after deputies arrived for a welfare check on Sept. 26. Authorities allege the children had suffered numerous injuries during the overnight hours and had been left unattended. Both children were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, with the older child reportedly suffering especially severe injuries to an arm. Investigators allege that a knife and blunt object were involved, while the home showed signs of significant damage, including broken televisions and mirrors. The children were later transferred to a children’s hospital for additional care and were expected to recover.
The welfare check began after the 6-year-old contacted his grandmother and told her that his mother was not home and that he and his younger sibling were hungry. The grandmother and a friend went to the residence, where they discovered the injured children and called 911. Gosnell reportedly returned while deputies were at the scene and was taken to a hospital for evaluation after authorities became concerned about her behavior. Prosecutors later said she attempted to flee during the ambulance ride and was restrained. She was eventually medically cleared and released before being taken into custody. Gosnell was denied bond and later faced additional weapons-related charges. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack, including reports about her behavior and social media activity before the incident. The children remain the focus of concern as the legal case moves forward, with Gosnell’s next court appearance scheduled for Nov. 12.
