Kevin Bacon once dreamed of disappearing into the Connecticut countryside with little more than a dog, a wood stove, and long winter walks. In 1983, before Footloose made him a household name, he bought what he described as “a rundown little farmhouse,” imagining a quiet life far from the noise of Hollywood. That simple property eventually became something much bigger, filled with family memories, gardens, horses, goats, pigs, alpacas, and music. After marrying Kyra Sedgwick, Bacon’s solitary vision transformed into a shared family life, with the couple raising their children between country surroundings and city living. The farm even became an unexpected social-media attraction as their animals appeared in playful videos and musical moments. Yet behind the charming rural lifestyle was a major disagreement that would eventually change where the family spent its time.
Sedgwick eventually struggled with the isolation of Connecticut and wanted her family back in New York, where she could reconnect with friends and the city she knew. Bacon has recalled that the disagreement became one of the biggest fights of their marriage, particularly because he worried about the cost of buying a Manhattan apartment. They ultimately made the move, and Bacon later admitted that Sedgwick had been right, calling raising their children in Manhattan one of the best decisions they made. Their renovated prewar apartment features an open living arrangement, white cabinetry, wood accents, parquet floors, and a colorful kitchen backsplash. Years later, the couple also embraced Los Angeles, purchasing a Los Feliz home reportedly for $2.5 million in 2011. The approximately 2,760-square-foot residence offered soaring ceilings, large windows, a chef’s kitchen, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and a pool and spa. Together, the three properties reveal how dramatically the couple’s idea of home has evolved—from Bacon’s dream of solitude to a family life spread across country, city, and California.
