Prince Harry Reveals the 10-Day Marriage Rule He and Meghan Markle Try to Follow — Family Comes First

Prince Harry has revealed a personal rule he tries to follow to balance his marriage, fatherhood, and professional responsibilities. During a new MasterClass released on October 8, 2026, the Duke of Sussex discussed happiness, grief, and the importance of spending time with the people he loves. Harry, 42, explained that he aims not to spend more than 10 days away from his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five. The couple have navigated major changes since marrying in May 2018, including stepping back from royal duties and raising their children largely outside the public spotlight. Harry said the guideline helps him manage his charitable work and other commitments without losing sight of family life. His comments also brought attention to the couple’s early romance, when Meghan lived in Toronto and Harry remained in Britain. During that long-distance period, Meghan reportedly established a two-week rule to help ensure they regularly saw each other despite demanding schedules and frequent international travel.

Since becoming parents, Harry and Meghan have faced new challenges balancing work and family responsibilities. Meghan previously spoke about how difficult it was to spend nearly three weeks away from Archie and Lilibet, admitting that the separation affected her deeply. Harry has also discussed his emotional struggles following the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and how processing grief changed his understanding of happiness. In his recent interview, he emphasized the importance of maintaining meaningful connections while continuing to pursue work that matters to him. Although his charitable commitments and public appearances sometimes require travel, he says he tries to keep family time a priority. The 10-day guideline is a personal goal rather than a guarantee that every trip follows the same schedule. After eight years of marriage, Harry’s comments offer a glimpse into the boundaries he hopes will help protect his relationship with Meghan. For the couple, the message is simple: professional responsibilities matter, but so does making time to return home to their children and share everyday family moments.
