British Influencer, 23, Faces Uncertain Future in Dubai Jail — Family Raises Alarming Concerns

Brooke George, a 23-year-old woman from Kent, is reportedly struggling to cope with the conditions inside a Dubai detention center as she awaits the next stage of her murder trial. Her family says the young influencer has been deprived of proper sleep and is becoming increasingly distressed after spending months in custody. George was arrested at Dubai International Airport in June following the fatal stabbing of 26-year-old William Treeby, a British man she had met online. She acknowledges stabbing him but maintains that she acted in self-defense after he allegedly became abusive and attacked her. If convicted of murder under United Arab Emirates law, she could face life imprisonment or, in the most serious outcome, the death penalty. According to her mother, Tess, the detention center’s bright lights remain on throughout the night, while noise from nearby children makes resting difficult. Her family is now deeply concerned about the impact the situation is having on her well-being.

The case has also been complicated by delays in court proceedings. At a hearing on October 8, prosecution witnesses reportedly failed to appear, leading the court to postpone the trial until October 28. George’s family claims that telephone conversations with her have been severely restricted, with recent calls allegedly ending after approximately two minutes. Her mother says she is worried about her daughter’s mental state and wants her to receive appropriate medical attention and assistance with sleeping. Radha Stirling, founder of the advocacy organization Detained in Dubai, has called for the concerns to be addressed without further delay. George’s defense team has also questioned inconsistencies in witness accounts and requested testimony from the medical expert who conducted Treeby’s autopsy. The defense wants questions surrounding his reported level of intoxication examined in court. As the next hearing approaches, George remains in custody while her legal team prepares to challenge the evidence. Her case continues to draw attention to both the serious allegations she faces and her family’s calls for humane treatment while the legal process unfolds.
