Aspiring Figure Skater Matilda Ferrari, 15, Killed While Waiting for School Bus: Details

Italy is in deep mourning for the young figure skating talent Matilda Ferrari, who died in a traffic accident at the age of just 15. The schoolgirl was hit by a truck as she was trying to catch the school bus in the morning. The incident took place in the town of Giustino in the province of Trentino, in the heart of the Italian Alps.

According to media reports, Matilda was on her way to the bus stop when she was hit by a cement truck while crossing the road. Rescue workers and an emergency doctor were quickly on the scene, but could do nothing more for her. She succumbed to her serious injuries at the scene of the accident. According to the initial investigation, the driver of the truck had a green light when the girl entered the road.

According to local reports, Matilda was traveling with two friends. She wanted to drive to Tione to attend classes, as she does every school day. The road where the accident happened is very busy and is considered one of the most important links in the region. The tragic accident immediately caused great consternation in the small community.

The words of the mayor of Giustino, Manuel Cosi, were particularly moving. He said: “It is a terrible tragedy that leaves us speechless. You can’t go to school in the morning and die like this. We are devastated. What has happened is terrible.” His statement reflects the bewilderment felt by many local residents.

Matilda was considered an up-and-coming talent in figure skating. She was a member of the Sporting Ghiaccio Art Pinzolo club and spent almost every day on the ice. Despite a knee injury, she had recently made impressive progress. At the end of 2024, she came third in the final of the Italian Cup – a sign of her great potential. After the tragedy, her club published a black and white photo of her with the words that they couldn’t imagine not seeing her train every day.

News of her death spread quickly in Italy and beyond. Many people expressed their sympathy on social networks. One user wrote: “Too many crazy people.” Another comment read: “What a terrible death, poor girl, may she rest in peace.” These reactions show how much people are moved by the death of a young person.

The police have begun investigating the circumstances of the accident. Technicians are investigating whether mechanical defects played a role or whether visibility was inadequate. What is certain is that dangerous situations have repeatedly occurred at this point in the past. The discussion about the safety of school routes in the region has been reignited by the accident.

There is great sadness in the Giustino community. Friends, teachers and neighbors remember Matilda as a bright girl with a lot of discipline and dreams for the future. Her death leaves a huge gap – not only in sport, but also in the lives of all those who were close to her.

For many, the realization remains that a normal ritual – waiting for the school bus in the morning – can turn into a tragedy in a matter of seconds. The mayor said Giustino had “lost a star”. These words summarize how the small community feels the loss: as a pain that has affected not only the family, but everyone.
