Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has been suspended indefinitely by ABC after the comedian made controversial comments about the shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel criticized Donald Trump and his supporters, claiming they were using Kirk’s death to “score political points.” During his monologue, he mocked Trump’s response to the tragedy, comparing his behavior to a child grieving a goldfish. This sparked backlash, particularly from Nexstar Media Group, which stopped airing the show.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. Following a 33-hour manhunt, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested and charged with aggravated murder and other serious offenses. Prosecutors are reportedly seeking the death penalty.
ABC, owned by Disney, announced the decision to pull Kimmel’s show after 22 years on air, stating it would be “preempted indefinitely.” Nexstar’s broadcasting president, Andrew Alford, called Kimmel’s remarks “offensive and insensitive,” emphasizing the need for “cooler heads” during a politically tense time.
Donald Trump celebrated the suspension on Truth Social, calling Kimmel “talentless” and praising ABC’s move. This comes just weeks after Trump predicted that both Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon would be “next” following the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show.
