Living with my son Andrew and his wife Kate was nothing like I imagined. Kate, who was seven months pregnant, clearly didn’t want me there, but my leg injury left her with no choice but to agree. Our relationship was tense, and her constant sharp remarks made me feel unwelcome. Their grumpy neighbor, Mr. Davis, wasn’t much friendlier — or so I thought.
One morning, to my surprise, Mr. Davis invited me to dinner. That evening changed everything. Over a simple meal, we talked, laughed, and even danced. Slowly, he became a bright spot in my life, someone who made me feel valued and cared for. For the first time in years, I felt genuinely happy and alive.
But on Thanksgiving, I overheard Kate and Peter — Mr. Davis — talking. It turned out Kate and Andrew had convinced him to date me in exchange for a record player, just to get me out of their hair. I felt betrayed and heartbroken. When I confronted them, Andrew admitted the plan, while Kate said it gave her some peace during her pregnancy.
Peter, however, confessed that while it started as a deal, his feelings for me were real. He told me I had changed him and that he had truly fallen in love with me. Though hurt, I believed him. We decided to move forward together, keeping the record player for our music. From that day on, Peter and I built a life filled with love, proving that happiness can bloom even from a rocky start.
