Kirk, 31, was hosting a Turning Point USA rally at Utah Valley University on September 10, attended by more than 3,000 people. While answering a question about gun violence, he was fatally shot in the neck. Despite being rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, he was later pronounced dead, with Donald Trump confirming the news publicly.
Kirk’s close friend, author Frank Turek, shared in a podcast that he was with Kirk during the desperate attempt to get him to the hospital. Due to Kirk’s height, the car door couldn’t be fully closed during the rushed trip. Turek recalled performing CPR while security staff tried to stop the bleeding, but Kirk had already passed away by the time they arrived.
Authorities later released surveillance footage showing a person of interest fleeing the scene. Investigators recovered a rifle they believe was used in the attack and collected physical evidence, including fingerprints and shoe impressions. The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information and has received thousands of tips.Neuropsychologist Derek Van Schaik explained that Kirk’s quick physical reaction, captured on video, was an involuntary reflex. He noted that Kirk would have lost consciousness almost instantly and would not have experienced fear or pain. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, 22, was later arrested and charged. The investigation continues as the community mourns Kirk, who leaves behind his wife, Erika, and two young children.
