Quan Hongchan, an Olympic diver from China, wowed spectators at the Diving World Cup with a flawless ‘no splash’ dive, solidifying her reputation as one of the world’s best. At just 18, Quan had already won two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, excelling in both the 10m women’s team synchro and individual platform events. Her performance in the individual platform event was particularly impressive, with a score 4.90 points higher than her teammate, Chen Yuxi.
Known for her ‘no splash’ dives, Quan coined a new term in the sport: the “water splash disappearance technique.” Her fourth dive at the Diving World Cup, a 3.3 ‘back three-and-a-half somersaults tuck’ (207C), received an extraordinary score of 92.40, marking the highest score in the final and reinforcing her status as a rising star in the sport. At just 13, she won a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, further cementing her place in diving history.
Quan faced her own struggles during training, particularly with the challenging 207C dive, which often left her with painful injuries from slamming into the water. Despite these difficulties, her dedication paid off, and she perfected the dive, which became one of her signature moves. This dive was described as “perfect” by the judges and is considered one of the best in recent diving competitions.
Unfortunately, after her incredible performance, Quan was forced to sit out the World Aquatics Championships due to a serious ankle injury. Despite this setback, her achievements at the Diving World Cup and Paris 2024 will undoubtedly keep her at the forefront of the diving world for years to come.
