Paula was a hardworking mother whose demanding job required constant travel, leaving her husband, Benjamin, and their son, Liam, at home. During one trip, she promised Liam more family time once she returned. But after coming back, Paula noticed Liam acting distant and overheard him calling someone else “Mom” on the phone. Alarmed, she decided to secretly follow him the next day instead of confronting him directly.
To her shock, Liam skipped school and went to a young woman’s house, where he was greeted with a warm hug. Paula confronted the woman, Melissa, only to discover the devastating truth: Benjamin had been having an affair with Melissa for a year, and Liam had grown close to her, even calling her “Mom.” When Benjamin arrived, he admitted everything and blamed Paula’s constant absence for driving him and Liam toward Melissa.
Heartbroken, Paula realized her career had cost her family more than she ever imagined. Liam confessed that Melissa felt more like a mother because she was always there for him, unlike Paula, who was always busy with work. Unable to bear the pain, Paula walked out, leaving Benjamin and Melissa behind.
Three weeks later, Paula filed for divorce. Benjamin moved in with Melissa, and Liam chose to live primarily with them, visiting Paula on weekends. Paula gave up her promotion, took a lower-paying job with no travel, and started therapy, determined to rebuild her relationship with her son — even if forgiveness might take a lifetime.
