Donald Trump recently faced an embarrassing moment when an escalator abruptly stopped as he and First Lady Melania Trump stepped onto it at the UN headquarters in New York. With Melania walking ahead, the pair and their entourage were forced to climb the stairs instead. Trump later expressed his anger, calling the incident “sabotage” and claiming that UN workers had previously joked about shutting off the escalator. He even went as far as to say that those responsible should be arrested.
This mishap came amid Trump’s ongoing feud with late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel. Their public back-and-forth began when ABC temporarily suspended Kimmel for comments about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk and Trump. The former president celebrated Kimmel’s suspension, but Kimmel quickly returned to air, using his opening monologue to call out Trump, accusing him of trying to get him and his staff fired because “he can’t take a joke.”
In his latest jab, Kimmel mocked Trump’s escalator incident by posting a humorous photo of his sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez happily riding a working escalator. He captioned it, “Headed to Brooklyn! Escalator is working great!” The timing of the post made it clear that Kimmel was poking fun at Trump’s misfortune while promoting his upcoming shows.
Kimmel’s show will be temporarily filmed in Brooklyn next week at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, airing from September 29 to October 3. Joking about the move, Kimmel quipped that they need to “stay on the move so the FCC can’t get us,” showing that he has no plans to let up in his comedic feud with the former president.
