The pain of betrayal mixed with the uncertainties of inheritance can feel unbearable. That was the reality for a woman left to raise her 8-year-old alone after her husband’s death nearly three years ago. Six weeks ago, a process server arrived with a court order demanding her husband submit DNA for a child. She handed over his death certificate and thought that was the end of it.
