My son and daughter-in-law convinced me to move in with them four years ago instead of going to a nursing home. I have a daughter as well, but her house is too small, and she wasn’t in a position to help with my expenses.
Recently, my daughter-in-law said it would be “unfair” to split my inheritance equally between my two children, since she and my son have been housing me and spending money on me for years.
My son then added, “Your daughter was secretly asking you for money behind our backs while we’ve been taking care of you. Is this how you thank us, Mom?”
I explained that my daughter is struggling financially, so I had helped her with a few hundred dollars a few months ago. That doesn’t mean she should be cut out of her inheritance or that everything should go to them.
My daughter-in-law smirked and said, “It’s not our problem if your daughter couldn’t manage to make any money. We deserve her share more because we’ve been supporting you for four years.”
I’m heartbroken by this situation and don’t know what to do.
