Greta Thunberg has alleged mistreatment by Israeli authorities after being detained during the Global Sumud Flotilla’s attempt to reach Gaza. According to reports shared with Swedish officials, Thunberg claimed she was held in a bedbug-infested cell, lacked sufficient food and water, and was forced to pose with unidentified flags. Fellow activists and lawyers echoed concerns, describing the detainees’ treatment as harsh, with limited access to clean water, food, and medical care. One U.S. activist said Thunberg was “used as propaganda,” while a journalist claimed she was wrapped in an Israeli flag.
Israeli officials have denied all allegations, stating detainees were given proper care and their rights upheld. Thunberg was among over 400 activists intercepted in international waters and detained at Ketziot Prison before being deported to Greece on October 6. The incident has drawn international attention and added further controversy to the ongoing tensions surrounding the Gaza blockade.
