My Husband’s Manipulative Ex-Wife Wants to Move Closer to Us; I Can’t Let Her Do That

Blending families often comes with challenges, especially when an ex-spouse is involved. A woman shared her frustration after her husband’s ex, who hasn’t worked in 15 years, began making unreasonable demands. Though she often criticized the new wife, her behavior escalated when she started relying on health issues to draw sympathy and asked to tag along on outings with the kids.

Things took a turn when the ex suggested that the wife should sell her own house to fund a tiny home for her nearby. Shocked, the woman refused, especially since she had purchased the house before marrying and wanted to protect it for her own child’s future. The ex rejected the idea of the kids living with their dad and even claimed that her ex-husband’s old vows to her still mattered. Some in-laws sided with the ex and called the wife “selfish,” leaving her feeling pressured.

Eventually, the woman confronted her husband, who admitted he felt guilty but agreed she was right not to give in. He told his ex she needed to stop manipulating him and relying on him as a placeholder for her boyfriend. The ex responded dramatically, claiming illness and cutting contact, but the wife stood her ground, setting clear boundaries.

Many people supported the woman, pointing out that the ex-wife was manipulative and that caring for her wasn’t her responsibility. They advised her to protect her assets, remind her husband where his loyalties belong, and stop letting guilt dictate decisions. Ultimately, the wife chose to defend her independence and her child’s future, refusing to be taken advantage of.
