When a middle-aged couple moved in next door, I didn’t think much of it. They were polite, maybe a little unusual, but nothing alarming. A week later, after returning from a trip to visit my mom, I decided to relax in my backyard. As I settled into my chair, I happened to glance toward their house — and froze. There was a camera installed under their roof, pointed directly into my yard.
Feeling uncomfortable, I went over to ask about it. They claimed it was for security, to prevent anyone from climbing over the fence. I explained that it invaded my privacy, but they didn’t seem concerned. I didn’t want to start a huge argument, and taking legal action felt exhausting and expensive. Still, I couldn’t just ignore it.
That night, I stayed up thinking of what to do. The next weekend, I invited a few friends over for a casual get-together. We put up a row of tall plants and some decorative screens along the fence line, creating a little privacy oasis for my yard. It looked beautiful, blocked the view completely, and didn’t break any rules.
A few days later, my neighbors asked if I could move the plants because their “security view” was blocked. I just smiled and said, “Oh, I thought you only needed it for safety!” Since then, the camera’s been turned away, and my backyard feels peaceful again — proof that sometimes, clever solutions speak louder than confrontation.
