The narrator marries Christopher, who claims to be a devoted father to his son, Stuart. Six months into their marriage, he says Stuart is gravely ill and needs expensive treatment. The narrator works overtime, drains her savings, and even sells family heirlooms—ultimately giving Christopher over $120,000.
