Riley, 27, lives with her husband Luke and their dog Scout. After a miscarriage, she keeps her distance from Luke’s competitive sister, Sheryl, who recently moved nearby. Sheryl often sends her 3-year-old daughter, Macy, to “visit the dog.” Soon Sheryl somehow knows private details from inside Riley’s home, and $15,000 in cash vanishes. Riley then notices Macy crawling through the doggy door—wearing a tiny silver “button” that turns out to be a hidden camera.

Riley and Luke check the microSD card and realize Macy has been used to record inside their home. They set a trap, loudly “mentioning” they hid cash in a red toolbox in the garage. That night, a motion sensor catches Sheryl sneaking in; police arrive and catch her rummaging through the toolbox. A search of Sheryl’s house later uncovers most of the stolen cash and several more hidden cameras, including one in a stuffed animal.

Sheryl’s husband leaves her and files for custody, horrified his wife used their child as a spy. Months later, karma strikes again when Macy swallows a piece of a disassembled camera Sheryl hid among junk food; doctors save her, but the scare costs Sheryl custody and limits her to supervised visits after counseling is ordered by the court.

Riley doesn’t forgive Sheryl for stealing their peace and making her doubt her sanity, but she’s grateful Macy is safe with her dad. When Riley sees the little girl laughing at the park with Scout, she’s reminded that some betrayals come from inside the home—and that karma doesn’t always need help.
