Fyodor Petrovich, an elderly widower, set out with his loyal dog Buyan to visit and repair the fence at his late son’s grave. Sasha, though adopted, had been the light of Fyodor’s life, serving proudly in the military until illness claimed him young. Fyodor’s wife had passed soon after, leaving him alone.
At the cemetery, as Fyodor gathered branches, Buyan began digging furiously near the grave. To Fyodor’s shock, they unearthed a cardboard box—inside was a barely breathing newborn girl, freshly buried. Fyodor raced to the village paramedic, saving the baby’s life just in time.
The next day, the girl’s grandfather, Herman, arrived. He explained that his daughter had died in childbirth and her husband, seeking an inheritance, had buried the baby alive. Thanks to Fyodor, she survived. Deeply grateful, Herman gifted Fyodor enough money to restore the graves and more.
Weeks later, Fyodor returned to the cemetery to find a beautiful new memorial, arranged by Herman. Fyodor sat beside his family’s graves, content and at peace. That evening, only the dog returned. Fyodor had passed away quietly at the gravesite.
Buyan, ever faithful, lived two more years—visiting the cemetery daily—until he passed near Fyodor’s grave, and was buried beside him.
