The Delivery Note That Changed Everything

It started like any other night—I was too tired to cook, so I ordered dinner for my kids and me. When our regular delivery guy, Ravi, showed up, something was off. He barely made eye contact, thrust the food into my hands, and rushed back to his car without a word. My son Kai noticed it too. “What’s up with Ravi?” he asked. I had no answer.

Then I saw it—scrawled in shaky handwriting on the back of the delivery bag: “CHECK YOUR TRASH CAN.” I sent the kids to wash up and rushed outside, my heart pounding. The first can held nothing but regular garbage. The second? That’s where things got scary: a dirty blanket wrapped around gloves, tools, and an unlabeled bottle filled with some strange liquid.

I called the sheriff immediately. They told me not to touch anything and stay inside with the kids. Turns out, that bottle contained a powerful corrosive—used to weaken locks. Our home was likely the next target in a series of break-ins. By 8 a.m. the next morning, I was begging a security company to come out the same day. Thankfully, they squeezed us in. Cameras went up, and I felt a little safer—though still deeply unsettled.

Later, Ravi returned to the neighborhood, and I caught him before he could leave. He looked terrified. “I saw two guys messing with your trash,” he admitted. “I didn’t know what to do. I was scared.” That quick-thinking note may have saved my family. Thanks to Ravi’s warning—and fast action from our local sheriff—we dodged a terrifying fate. But I’ve learned my lesson: always trust your gut. And never ignore a cryptic warning, especially when it’s written on a takeout bag.
