A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer, Brooke George, is facing a possible death sentence in Dubai after being charged with the premeditated murder of 26-year-old William Treeby. According to George and advocacy group Detained in Dubai, the pair met on Facebook in April, and Treeby later invited her to Dubai with promises of modeling opportunities. While her first visit was enjoyable, George says her second trip quickly turned frightening. She alleges Treeby became controlling, booked only a one-way ticket for her, and repeatedly assaulted her. After a night out on June 22, George claims he attacked her in a car and continued the assault at his apartment. She told her family she feared for her life and planned to return to the UK, but when she went back to retrieve her passport, she says Treeby refused to give it back and punched her again. In the struggle, George reportedly grabbed a nearby kitchen knife, leading to the fatal incident. She was arrested at Dubai International Airport hours later while attempting to board her flight home. Her mother said George appeared terrified during their final phone call, with a badly swollen eye and visible signs of distress.
The case has drawn widespread attention after details of Treeby’s past emerged. Reports indicate he had previous convictions for violent offenses in the UK and was awaiting trial on separate drug conspiracy charges when he died. George’s supporters argue these details strengthen her claim that she acted in self-defense, while friends and relatives of Treeby dispute her account, describing him as caring and questioning why she returned to Dubai if she felt unsafe. During her second visit, George also reportedly noticed unfamiliar men regularly coming and going from the apartment, raising further concerns about Treeby’s activities. Authorities in Dubai have charged George with premeditated murder, a crime that can carry the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole if convicted. Advocacy groups are urging investigators to fully examine the evidence and consider George’s allegations of domestic violence before reaching a final decision. Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office has confirmed it is providing consular assistance as the legal proceedings continue.
