When I gave birth to my daughter Everly, she came early and tiny, but healthy. I, on the other hand, had complications, stitches, and high blood pressure. I came home exhausted and fragile, expecting peace.
Instead, I walked into a backyard that looked like it survived a college party — trash in the pool, frosting on chairs, cigarette butts, cords everywhere. And silver balloons reading “Summer Vibes.”
I knew immediately who did it — my sister-in-law, Lana. While I was in a hospital bed, she had thrown a party at our house without permission. She even posted about it on Instagram.
Caleb, my husband, confronted her. She brushed it off like it was nothing and told him to “call the maid.”
The next day, the pool tech told us bleach had been dumped in the pool, ruining the filter and liner — around $7,200 in damage. Later, one of her friends messaged me and confirmed that Lana did it on purpose, saying, “Let’s see how Little Miss Perfect likes her pretty backyard now.”
When we confronted her, she denied everything and acted like Caleb choosing me and our baby over her was betrayal. Then she filed a fake insurance claim in our name — which got denied — and eventually the police got involved. She lost her car paying fines and lost her job. She begged Caleb to fix it for her. He didn’t.
It was the breaking point. Caleb cut her off. His mom admitted she had enabled Lana for years and hoped this would be her wake-up call.
We finally got our pool fixed and brought Everly into her nursery — safe, calm, and quiet. After everything, all we wanted was peace. And now that Lana is out of our lives, we finally have it.
