My Husband’s Manipulative Ex-Wife Wants to Move Closer to Us; I Can’t Let Her Do That

My husband has two kids from his previous marriage, and I have one of my own. We don’t have children together. His ex-wife lives about 20 minutes away with their kids. From the start, she’s been entitled and judgmental, often making snarky comments about me and comparing her past marriage to my relationship with my husband. Eventually, I told her to move on, and surprisingly, my husband backed me up.

The real issues began because she hasn’t worked in 15 years. She uses health problems as excuses, asking my husband to drive her places or accompany her to doctor appointments. She even tries to tag along when we take the kids out, despite having her own boyfriend and family nearby. Recently, she suggested she wasn’t well enough to care for her kids and then proposed something shocking: that I sell my house (which I owned before meeting my husband) and build her a small house on our land.

I refused, and she lashed out, saying my husband made vows to her first and that she didn’t trust us to raise her kids. Some in-laws called me selfish, and my husband stayed quiet, which frustrated me. But I stood firm — my house is for my child’s future. Eventually, my husband agreed, told his ex he wouldn’t be manipulated anymore, and set boundaries. She cried, blocked us, and tried to guilt-trip him again, but I followed up with a clear email about limits.

I’m furious but also relieved I stood my ground. Her demands are unreasonable, and it’s clear she’s been manipulating my husband for years.
