After years of caring for her dying father while raising her young son alone, Liza inherits most of his savings as thanks for her devotion. Her sister Marissa, who barely helped and lived a glamorous, irresponsible lifestyle, becomes furious. When Liza refuses to hand over $30,000 to fund Marissa’s extravagant wedding, Marissa turns the whole family against her — and even threatens Liza’s home.
Weeks later, Liza’s house is deliberately set on fire while she and her son are inside. Though police can’t prove it, Liza is certain Marissa is responsible. The situation worsens when she learns Marissa fraudulently used their mother’s house as collateral for a massive loan, causing their mom to lose her home and move in with Liza. In the end, their mother dies heartbroken after years of being drained by Marissa.
Eventually, Marissa’s reckless life collapses — her husband leaves, her money disappears, and she ends up homeless with huge gambling debts. When Liza encounters her again, broken and remorseful, she decides to give her one last chance. Marissa slowly rebuilds her life, repays what she can, and even restores their parents’ home.
Years later, Marissa is stable, married, and a mother. Though Liza never fully forgets the past, she finds some peace watching her sister finally grow into a better person — the sister she had always hoped for.
