My Husband Shaved My Head as a “Prank” — Now I’m Considering Divorce

It happened on what should have been a normal day. I was in the bathroom, quietly doing my makeup, when my husband came in looking for his electric razor. I thought nothing of it—until, without warning, he switched it on and ran it straight through my hair. I felt a jolt of horror as a large chunk of my hair fell to the floor. Years of care, gone in seconds. My heart sank. I turned to him in shock and yelled, “Are you out of your mind?!”

Instead of apologizing, he laughed. “It’s just a prank,” he said casually. “Relax, it’ll grow back.” Meanwhile, I was on the verge of tears, staring at the mirror and the uneven patch he’d just shaved into my head. He stood there smirking, trying not to burst out laughing again. It wasn’t funny. It was cruel. And at that moment, I realized I didn’t feel safe—not physically, but emotionally—with someone who found amusement in violating my boundaries like that.

I packed my bags and left the same day. My head was a mess, both literally and mentally. This man, who I had trusted for three years, had never shown this side of himself. There were no signs he was capable of such a twisted joke. And while some might say it was “just hair,” to me, it was so much more—it was about respect, and that line had been crossed deeply.

Now I’m left wondering if I overreacted. But deep down, I know I didn’t. A loving partner doesn’t humiliate you and laugh while you cry. A loving partner doesn’t call trauma a prank. I’m seriously thinking about divorce—not because of the hair, but because I’ve seen a side of him I can’t unsee.
