I Spent My 50th Birthday Giving Instead of Receiving—and It Changed Me Forever

For my 50th birthday, instead of throwing a party, I printed elegant invitations, tucked cash inside, and set out to perform fifty random acts of kindness. Two moments changed me. At a gas station, I filled a struggling young family’s tank—money they couldn’t spare as they rushed to be with loved ones after a death. The father broke down in tears.

Later at Goodwill, I bought a full interview outfit for an older man who couldn’t afford one. The rest of the day was small surprises—paying for drive-thru orders, leaving cash on diaper boxes. Those acts filled my heart more than any celebration could.
