They Called Me a Heartless MIL After One ‘No’—But I Waited, and Karma Spoke Louder Than Her Facebook Post

My pregnant DIL constantly asked for help—cooking, groceries, cleaning—and I always said yes. But when she called demanding a foot massage, I finally refused. She retaliated by posting on Facebook, claiming I’d abandoned her, and strangers flooded the comments calling me selfish. My son took her side without asking what happened, which hurt even more.

So I stepped back completely. No errands, no chores, nothing. A week later, she posted again—this time apologizing publicly, saying she missed me. My son eventually came over to apologize, too. Slowly, my DIL began putting in real effort to make things right, even going to therapy for her temper. When the baby was born, she asked me to be there. In the end, we rebuilt our relationship—not because I kept giving, but because I set boundaries. Saying no didn’t ruin our family. It saved it.
