Two cruise ships collided with what authorities described as an “extremely violent” impact on the River Nile near Luxor, killing a 47-year-old Italian tourist, Denise Ruggeri. She was in her cabin aboard the Royal Beau Rivage when it struck the Opera, suffering fatal injuries despite being rushed to hospital.
Around 70–80 other Italian passengers were onboard but no additional injuries were reported, according to Italy’s ambassador to Egypt. Egyptian authorities blamed a sharp maneuver and navigation rule violations, suspended the Royal Beau Rivage captain’s license, and opened an investigation into the deadly crash.
