Seeing white powder on the back of your TV can be surprising, but in most cases, it’s nothing to panic about. Many televisions and other electronic devices are manufactured with fire-retardant materials to reduce the risk of overheating and electrical fires. Over time, especially when exposed to warmth, humidity, and normal airflow, these materials can release a fine, chalky residue that settles on the outer casing. It may look strange, but it’s generally harmless and simply a byproduct of built-in safety features.
Cleaning it is easy — just wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterward. Avoid spraying liquid directly onto the TV. If the powder keeps returning quickly or appears in large amounts, it’s a good idea to contact the manufacturer or a technician to check the back panel or ventilation area. In most situations, though, this residue is only a sign that your TV’s fire-safety materials are doing their job — not a sign of danger.
