I Refuse to Trade My Retirement Dreams for Babysitting Duties

Retirement is supposed to be a time to relax and enjoy life, but for one woman, that dream was quickly interrupted.

After nearly fifty years of working, she finally retired and felt proud and relieved. Excited, she called her son to share the news. Instead of congratulations, her daughter-in-law jumped in with, “Perfect! Now we can cancel daycare.”

Shocked, she explained that she wanted to travel and rest, not take on a full-time babysitting job. The next day, her son sent a long message saying she owed them for the help they gave her after her husband passed away.

She offered a compromise: watching the kids once a week for a few hours. But they left her message on read. Now she misses her grandkids deeply but knows she can’t handle full-time care.

Am I being selfish for wanting my retirement to be my own?
