Rhode Island Incident During a Hockey Game Claims 3 Lives, Including a Child – Details

A youth hockey game at Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket turned tragic on February 16, 2026, when gunfire erupted in the stands just before 3 p.m. Authorities confirmed that three people, including a child, were killed, and several others were critically injured. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said the suspected shooter died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and that police did not fire their weapons. Investigators believe the violence stemmed from a targeted family dispute. As panic spread inside the arena, players and families scrambled for safety, and surrounding roads were shut down while emergency crews responded. The tragedy left the close-knit community shaken, as what was meant to be a celebration quickly turned into chaos and heartbreak.

Chief Goncalves later identified the suspect as Robert Dorgan. Reports indicate the shooting involved family members, intensifying the emotional toll of the incident. Don Grebien addressed residents, calling the event deeply tragic and emphasizing that it was unrelated to previous incidents in the region. School officials confirmed that all student athletes present were safely accounted for and supervised as reunification plans were arranged. As investigators continue reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses, community leaders have urged unity and support for those affected. A day meant for teamwork and celebration has instead become a painful reminder of how quickly violence can disrupt lives and leave lasting sorrow.
