Tesco has urgently recalled its Grape & Berry Medley over fears the pre-packed fruit may be contaminated with salmonella, a potentially serious foodborne bacteria. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a “do not eat” warning for punnets weighing 230g with use-by dates of 16 and 17 February 2026. Customers are advised to return the fruit to any Tesco store for a full refund, no receipt required. Salmonella can cause vomiting, severe stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and fever within hours of consumption. While most people recover without medical treatment, infections can be particularly dangerous for young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. The FSA also recommends that anyone experiencing symptoms avoid work, school, or nursery for at least 48 hours after recovery to prevent spreading the infection.
Salmonella is one of the most common causes of food poisoning in the UK, often linked to contaminated raw poultry, eggs, unpasteurised dairy, or ready-to-eat salads. Although outbreaks from supermarket products are rare, previous recalls in the UK have affected hundreds of products, including chicken and pre-packed meals. Experts note that the bacteria can survive on surfaces and multiply if food is improperly handled or stored, making ready-to-eat chilled foods particularly risky. Tesco’s recall is part of routine safety measures to protect public health. Customers can contact Tesco directly via tesco.com/help/contact for more information about the recall and safety guidance.
