A 35-year-old Afghan man has been arrested after attacking multiple people at a Jehovah’s Witness stand inside Würzburg Central Station in Bavaria, Germany. The incident occurred at around 7:50 a.m. in the station’s entrance hall, where the suspect allegedly approached the stand and attacked a 68-year-old man with a knife while also physically assaulting two others, aged 55 and 51. Bavarian Police confirmed that several passersby, including an off-duty police officer, quickly intervened and managed to overpower the suspect before uniformed officers arrived and placed him under arrest. Authorities are treating the case as attempted homicide. Fortunately, the three victims sustained minor injuries and did not suffer stab wounds; they received medical treatment at the scene. Police have stated there is currently no ongoing danger to the public.
The area around the station was temporarily cordoned off as Würzburg Criminal Police launched an investigation. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the station and searching the suspect’s apartment while also questioning witnesses about his behavior before and during the attack. Investigators are examining statements, gestures, and remarks reportedly made by the suspect at the scene to determine motive. Local train services were not disrupted. The attack has drawn comparisons to a 2021 stabbing in Würzburg, though authorities have not indicated any direct link between the cases. Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Christian denomination known for public preaching, were present at an information stand at the time. Police continue to gather evidence as the investigation moves forward.
