Authorities say 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin was shot and killed early Sunday after breaching security at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence and private club of Donald Trump. According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Martin entered the property armed with a shotgun and carrying a gas can. When confronted by local deputies and U.S. Secret Service agents, he was ordered to drop the items. Officials said he put down the gas can but raised the shotgun into what was described as a “shooting position.” At that point, officers opened fire, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement personnel were injured during the encounter. Trump and former First Lady Melania Trump were reportedly in Washington, D.C., at the time. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
In the days before the shooting, Martin had reportedly sent messages to a coworker referencing the so-called Epstein files, expressing concern about alleged government cover-ups and urging others to “raise awareness.” Coworkers told media outlets he had recently appeared increasingly focused on those topics, along with frustrations about economic challenges facing young people. However, authorities have not confirmed a motive for the breach. A family member told The Associated Press that violence was out of character for Martin, describing him as someone who would not typically harm others. Law enforcement officials have released an image of the firearm he allegedly carried and asked residents in the area to review security footage for additional information as they continue to piece together the circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter.
