Ex-Football Star Jordan Jones Passed Away at 28 – Details

The football community is mourning the tragic loss of Jordan Jones, a 28-year-old former college football standout whose life ended in an act of courage. Jones was fatally shot in the early hours of March 7, 2026, while working as a security guard at the Saddle Bar in Acworth, Georgia. According to local police, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 2:42 a.m. and found Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities say the incident began when Jones stepped in to break up a fight involving a 25-year-old man. After the altercation was stopped, the suspect allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Jones. The suspect was later arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery, and remains in custody while the investigation continues. For many who knew Jones, the heartbreaking part of the story is that he was doing what he had always done—stepping forward to help others.

Jones had built a respected athletic career through determination and hard work. A graduate of Mountain View High School, he later played college football at the University of West Alabama, where he recorded more than 200 tackles, 17 sacks, and earned recognition as a team captain and championship winner. After college, he continued pursuing professional opportunities in indoor football, playing for teams such as the Tulsa Oilers and the San Antonio Gunslingers. At the time of his death, Jones had recently been recruited to join the Michigan Arsenal of the Arena Football One League and was preparing for an upcoming training camp. Friends and teammates remember him not only for his athletic ability but also for his character, describing him as a supportive teammate and a kind-hearted person who always stood up for others. Tributes from loved ones, teammates, and his longtime partner have highlighted the deep impact he had on those around him, leaving behind memories of courage, loyalty, and compassion.
