Security expert warned Charlie Kirk he’d “100% be killed” at speaking event

Charlie Kirk, 31, co-founder of Turning Point USA and a leading conservative activist, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. As part of his “American Comeback Tour,” Kirk was mid-response to a controversial question on mass shootings when a single gunshot rang out. He was struck in the neck and died shortly after in the hospital, leaving behind his wife and two young children.

Security expert Kris Herzog has since revealed that Kirk had been warned months earlier about the likelihood of an assassination attempt. Herzog, whose clients include high-profile celebrities, claims he advised Kirk in March to adopt serious protective measures, including bulletproof barriers, metal detectors, and police oversight of elevated areas. Kirk allegedly ignored the advice, a decision Herzog says led to his death.

Eyewitness accounts highlight a troubling lack of security at the Utah Valley event. Though attendees were required to register, there were no ticket checks, no bag inspections, and no metal detectors. Several attendees, including Tyler McGettigan and Raydon Dechene, expressed disbelief at how minimal the event’s security presence was, especially given Kirk’s controversial status.

The fatal shot was believed to have come from a nearby rooftop. A rifle and ammunition were later found in nearby woods, and the FBI released footage of a person fleeing the scene. No suspects have been apprehended. The attack has triggered an intense nationwide manhunt and sparked broader concerns about political violence and event safety. Security professionals have expressed frustration, with one noting Kirk rarely wore a bulletproof vest and often stood too close to crowds. Herzog warned in March that without changes, Kirk would “100% be killed.” Sadly, he believes that warning came true. Tributes poured in, including from former President Donald Trump, who called Kirk “legendary” and ordered flags to be lowered in his honor.
