‘Alaskan Bush People’ Star Matt Brown’s Brother Shares Heartbreaking Details About His Final Years

The Brown family is mourning the loss of Matt Brown, one of the original stars of the TV show Alaskan Bush People, after his body was recovered from the Okanogan River in Washington following an extensive search. In an emotional tribute, his brother Gabe Brown shared a heartfelt statement remembering Matt as much more than a reality television personality. Gabe described him as intelligent, creative, and endlessly curious, highlighting his passion for learning and self-improvement. According to the family, Matt taught himself sign language, studied ancient languages and symbols, learned conversational Spanish, and expressed himself through art and outdoor adventures. They also emphasized the positive impact he had on others through his honesty about personal struggles, noting that many people found hope and encouragement in his willingness to discuss recovery and difficult life experiences. While fans knew Matt from television, Gabe said there were many dimensions of his character that remained unseen by the public.

At the same time, the family acknowledged the serious challenges Matt faced throughout his life, including long battles with addiction and mental health issues. Gabe explained that the family experienced years of hope, setbacks, treatment efforts, reconciliation, and continued attempts to help him find stability. Just days before his death, Matt had spoken openly in online videos about working through a relapse and focusing on recovery one day at a time. In one of his final messages, he encouraged himself to take “baby steps” forward, expressing determination despite difficult circumstances. The Browns said they want Matt to be remembered not for the tragedy of his death, but for his compassion, creativity, resilience, and the lives he touched. Their tribute also carried a message of support for anyone struggling with addiction, depression, or hopelessness, urging people to seek help and remember that recovery and hope remain possible.
