Doctor warns of quiet symptom of fastest growing cancer

Doctors are urging people not to ignore subtle health changes as cancer rates continue to rise among younger adults. According to oncologist Dr. Jiri Kubes from the Proton Therapy Center in Prague, awareness of head and neck cancers remains surprisingly low, even though nearly 13,000 cases are diagnosed annually in the UK. He explained that early detection can dramatically improve survival rates, making it essential for people to pay attention to symptoms that may seem harmless at first. One unexpected warning sign is a persistent blocked-ear sensation, similar to the feeling after swimming when the ears refuse to clear. Ongoing ear pain can also signal a tumor developing in the head or neck area. Dr. Kubes emphasized that symptoms lasting more than a couple of weeks should never be ignored, especially when they continue without a clear explanation.

Other warning signs include mouth ulcers that do not heal, sore gums, red or white patches inside the mouth, lingering sore throats, tooth pain, and ongoing hoarseness or voice changes. While these symptoms may not always indicate cancer, experts stress that they deserve medical attention if they persist. Doctors are also warning about another overlooked symptom connected to blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma: frequent night sweats. Dr. Suhail Hussain explained that many people blame sweating on stress, warm temperatures, or anxiety, but repeated episodes may point to something more serious. Leukemia affects the bone marrow, while lymphoma impacts the lymphatic system, and both can develop quietly before severe symptoms appear. Experts continue to remind the public that listening to the body and seeking medical advice early can make a life-saving difference.
