‘Supernanny’ Jo Frost slams ‘lazy’ parents for raising unresilient kids

Jo Frost, widely known as “Supernanny,” has sparked debate after warning that modern parenting habits may be preventing children from developing important life skills. In a recent social media video, Frost argued that many parents are unintentionally “disabling” their children by doing too much for them instead of teaching independence. Drawing from years of experience working with families, she pointed to examples such as children remaining in strollers longer than necessary, older children still relying on pacifiers, and school-aged kids struggling with basic tasks like brushing their teeth, using utensils properly, or maintaining personal hygiene. Frost emphasized that these issues are not necessarily the result of neglect, but rather a tendency for busy parents to choose convenience over teaching opportunities.

According to Frost, the problem is not a lack of love or care, but a lack of intentional guidance. She explained that while modern life is demanding, children need consistent encouragement to learn and practice essential skills. Every time parents step in because a task is slower, messier, or more difficult, they may be taking away a valuable chance for a child to build confidence and independence. Frost urged families to focus on teaching practical abilities such as riding a bike, proper hygiene, table manners, and other everyday responsibilities. Her comments resonated with many parents and teachers online, some of whom blamed excessive screen time and distracted parenting for the decline in life skills. Others agreed that children are often more capable than adults realize and benefit from being challenged. Frost’s message was clear: independence does not develop automatically. It must be taught, encouraged, and reinforced consistently. If parents fail to teach these skills, she argued, they should not be surprised when children struggle to perform them later in life.
