Bank of America VP Erin Piacenti Was Walking Through Times Square — Then Chaos Erupted

The afternoon rush was filling Times Square when a sudden attack sent pedestrians scrambling behind police barricades. Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, was walking along Seventh Avenue near 42nd Street around 4:30 p.m. on August 31, 2026. Only moments earlier, a 68-year-old visitor from Rhode Island had reportedly been attacked one block away while standing beside his wife. Police said Pamela Cisneros approached the couple carrying two knives concealed in a red shopping bag. She then continued north toward the crowded intersection. Within roughly 20 seconds, Erin unknowingly crossed into her path.

According to investigators, Erin’s encounter with Cisneros was random and unprovoked. After injuring her, Cisneros allegedly continued along Seventh Avenue with both knives still in her hands. Officers confronted her between 42nd and 43rd streets, repeatedly ordering her to surrender the weapons. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the standoff lasted approximately four minutes as Cisneros threatened the officers and resisted attempts to stop her. Stun devices appeared ineffective, and the situation escalated when she moved toward police—but the heartbreaking outcome was only beginning to emerge.

Two officers opened fire, ending the immediate danger in one of Manhattan’s busiest tourist districts. Cisneros was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, while both injured pedestrians received emergency treatment. The Rhode Island man survived and was later released, but Erin could not be saved. Her loss stunned colleagues at Bank of America, where she worked in Business Selection and Conflicts. A former Davis Polk attorney, Erin had handled matters involving mergers, investment transactions, insurance concerns, and complex corporate interests. Away from court filings and demanding legal work, she and her husband, attorney Frank Piacenti, had recently celebrated their second anniversary. Property records indicated they purchased their first home in Chester, New Jersey, in September 2025, beginning a mortgage and building an estate together.

Erin’s achievements reflected years of discipline and promise. She graduated magna cum laude from Fordham University School of Law in 2021, earned a Legal Writing Award, and participated in the Fordham Law Review and Moot Court Board. Her career included experience at Morgan Stanley, Major League Baseball, and prominent law firm Davis Polk before she joined Bank of America in February 2025. The surviving victim’s family said he was recovering, while investigators continued reviewing the confrontation and officers’ response. For those who knew Erin, however, the Times Square headlines could never capture the talented professional, wife, and friend whose ordinary walk through Manhattan ended in an unimaginable tragedy.
