Russell Howard Shares a Painful Family Loss — His Son’s Legacy Will Now Help Others

Russell Howard described the quiet hospital hours that changed his family forever. Earlier this year, the 46-year-old comedian and his wife, Cerys, welcomed their baby son, Felix, but their time together was heartbreakingly brief. Hospital staff surrounded the couple with compassion as they tried to process a loss no parent expects to face. A bereavement midwife named Lauren remained beside them, offering understanding shaped by her own experience of losing a baby. Felix was placed in a special cooling cot, allowing his parents to spend precious additional hours with him. Those moments became memories Russell and Cerys knew they would carry for the rest of their lives.

Lauren’s support affected the couple particularly deeply because she had retrained as a midwife after experiencing a similar tragedy. Russell said her kindness meant more than the family could express and helped them through their most difficult hours. As the months passed, he and Cerys began thinking about other parents who might someday need the same kind of care. They made a private promise that Felix’s name would become connected with compassion, comfort, and hope—but they had not yet revealed how they planned to honor it.

Turning that promise into something lasting required more than a public statement. Like establishing an estate or long-term charitable investment, creating a foundation involves careful planning, professional guidance, insurance considerations, and often help from an attorney to ensure donations reach their intended purpose. Russell announced that the family is establishing The Felix Foundation to support others facing similar circumstances. He explained that although they miss their son every day, they find comfort in knowing his legacy could help families during their darkest moments. The foundation’s first major fundraising effort will bring Russell back to the stage for an evening built around generosity and shared laughter.

The Felix Foundation Charity Stand-Up Gala is scheduled for February 8, 2027, at The O2 in London. Russell will host a lineup featuring Michael McIntyre, Jimmy Carr, Aisling Bea, Guz Khan, Greg Davies, Mo Gilligan, Michelle Wolf, and John Bishop. Every performer is donating their time without charge, a gesture Russell said he would never forget. The event will celebrate Felix while raising money for a cause that now means everything to his family. What began with a few treasured hours in a hospital will continue through a foundation created in his name, giving other parents the kindness and support that once carried Russell and Cerys through their own grief.
