JD Vance’s Mom Breaks Her Silence on Usha — Her Heartfelt Words About Her Daughter-in-Law Say It All

Political tensions surrounding Vice President JD Vance and Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed have recently drawn attention to Usha Vance and the Vance family. As the two men exchanged increasingly personal criticism, JD publicly defended his wife and told El-Sayed to stop bringing her into the dispute. Usha later addressed the controversy herself, saying she laughed at some of the remarks and emphasizing that she knows and loves the family members who raised JD. Her comments highlighted the personal side of a political argument that had increasingly moved beyond policy. But it was JD’s mother, Beverly Vance Aikins, who offered perhaps the clearest glimpse into how the family views Usha. During an interview with Tomi Lahren, Beverly strongly rejected suggestions that Usha or her children are treated differently because of Usha’s Indian heritage. She said Usha is loved as though she were her own daughter and described her as genuine, caring, and devoted to JD.

Beverly also shared details about the close bond she developed with Usha from the beginning of her relationship with JD. She recalled realizing early on that her son was deeply serious about Usha and said she has remained close to her ever since. Beverly praised Usha as a humble and loving mother, adding that she could think of little to criticize about her daughter-in-law. She also spoke warmly about Usha’s culture, recalling an Indian dish her grandson recommended and joking that while she enjoyed the meal, she probably could not prepare it herself. Her comments come against the backdrop of JD’s complicated childhood, which he described in his memoir Hillbilly Elegy. Beverly acknowledged that her family’s past was difficult, but her remarks about Usha were notably affectionate. Whatever disagreements continue in the political arena, Beverly made one point unmistakably clear: in her eyes, Usha is family.
