Longtime Nashville entertainment reporter Jimmy Carter has died at 73, leaving behind a remarkable career filled with celebrity interviews, unforgettable stories, and decades of broadcasting experience. Carter passed away in his sleep on October 13, 2026, his family confirmed, prompting heartfelt tributes from colleagues and loved ones. His granddaughter, Kira Sparks, remembered him as someone who would drop everything to help his family, describing him as a person who was always there when needed. She chose to celebrate their memories rather than focus only on the sadness of losing him. Among her favorite recollections were childhood outings Carter made extraordinary, including arranging limousine transportation and concert tickets so she and her friends could enjoy special experiences. His generosity, humor, and affection made him much more than a familiar face on television and radio.

Carter built his reputation through years of reporting for WSMV Channel 4 and contributing to WSM Radio’s Coffee, Country & Cody. His work brought him face-to-face with entertainment icons such as Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Clint Eastwood, and Robert Redford, while his broader broadcasting career earned him prestigious industry honors. He also worked in television production, covered major sporting events, and taught entertainment and music business courses at Belmont University. Former colleagues praised his confidence, warmth, and ability to make even the biggest stars feel comfortable. Carter’s granddaughter also remembered his early mornings, his love of surprising family members, and the comforting hugs that meant so much to them. He leaves behind three daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. As Nashville’s media community mourns his passing, his legacy lives on through his reporting, his extraordinary stories, and the many people whose lives he touched both professionally and personally.
