Nashville Entertainment Reporter Jimmy Carter Dies at 73 — Family Shares Heartfelt Details

Longtime Nashville entertainment reporter Jimmy Carter has died at 73, leaving behind a remarkable career filled with celebrity interviews, unforgettable stories, and decades of broadcasting experience. Carter died on October 13, 2026, and his family shared that he passed away peacefully in his sleep. His granddaughter, Kira Sparks, remembered him as a devoted family man who would drop everything to help someone he loved. She recalled childhood memories, including a special trip to see the Cheetah Girls, complete with limousine transportation and matching leopard-print outfits. Carter’s generosity and sense of humor made even ordinary moments memorable, while his comforting hugs and willingness to show up for his family remained among her most cherished memories. Professionally, he became a familiar face on WSMV Channel 4 and contributed to WSM Radio’s Coffee, Country & Cody, earning respect throughout Nashville’s entertainment community.

Tributes quickly poured in from colleagues who remembered Carter as a gifted broadcaster, a natural storyteller, and a journalist who built lasting relationships with major stars. Former Channel 4 colleague Demetria Kalodimos praised his warmth and communication skills, while Melanie Layden recalled his coverage of award shows, red carpets, music events, and movie premieres. Carter interviewed celebrated figures including Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Clint Eastwood, and Sylvester Stallone. His career also included television production, teaching at Belmont University, and work on nationally syndicated entertainment programs. Born in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1952, he began learning the broadcasting business as a teenager and went on to earn recognition for his journalism, including Emmy honors and other industry awards. Despite his professional accomplishments, family members and colleagues emphasized his kindness, humor, and dedication to those around him. Carter leaves behind three daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His legacy will live on through the stories he told, the people he inspired, and the many memories he created both on and off the air.
