I was juggling diaper bags and twin toddlers when my husband, Eric, shocked me by upgrading himself to business class while leaving me alone in economy. As I struggled through the flight, he texted me about his warm towels and fancy meals while I was covered in spit-up and apple juice.
When we landed, my father-in-law immediately noticed my exhaustion and Eric’s smugness. Later that night, he confronted Eric in his study, furious that he had abandoned me. The next evening at dinner, he humiliated Eric by ordering him a glass of milk, saying he wasn’t ready to be treated like an adult.
Two days later, my father-in-law revealed he had updated his will to secure the twins’ future and cut Eric’s share until he learned to prioritize family. Karma hit even harder when, at the airport for our return flight, Eric was “upgraded” again — but it was a one-way ticket to a hotel where he’d be sent alone to think about his behavior.
As I boarded with the kids, Eric followed sheepishly, begging for a chance to redeem himself. Let’s just say, family vacations will look very different from now on — and Eric won’t be seeing business class anytime soon.
